The “Busted Open Radio” podcast recently hosted WWE Hall of Famer, Bully Ray, who commended the Kevin Owens and Randy Orton segment from last week’s WWE SmackDown episode. The highlight of that segment was Owens executing a piledriver on Orton.
Here are some key points from the podcast:
On the storytelling aspect of Owens’ assault on Orton: “Numerous people were saying, ‘Oh dear. How could they? It was so vigorous, and the intensity at which he carried it out.’ I found it brilliant. Fantastic storytelling, flawless execution of the move.”
On the technique of using the pile driver as a hazardous manoeuvre in the storyline: “For me, the pile driver that Kevin Owens delivered to Randy Orton even worsens because it doesn’t just belong to the storyline, but to reality too. The wrestlers avoid the pile driver to avoid what happened to Austin, becoming the victim of a blunder. Despite knowing this, Kevin Owens chose to do it to Randy Orton. This aspect there, can be further explored.”
Additionally, Tommy Dreamer, a former WWE and ECW wrestler, shared his insights during a recent episode of the “Busted Open After Dark” podcast about last week’s WWE NXT episode that took place in the erstwhile ECW Arena (2300 Arena) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Some highlighted moments from the podcast are as follows:
On the ECW veterans whom he missed last week: “I would’ve adored seeing The Sandman, myself, and maybe Paul Heyman doing something for the crowd. The pace of the show was well organized.”
His views on the match between Bubba Ray Dudley & Trick Williams vs. Ethan Page & Ridge Holland: “I found the match to be outstanding. They were really trying to bring logic to an otherwise illogical business…At the end, it matters to no one because the audience remained electrified for almost the whole show.”
