On a recent episode of the widely listened to “Busted Open Radio” podcast, the esteemed WWE Hall of Famer, Bully Ray, drew comparisons between Cody Rhodes’ recent adversaries, post his victory as WWE Undisputed Universal Champion, to the rivalries faced by Rocky Balboa after he conceded victory to Apollo Creed in the classic movie, Rocky II.
Ray outlined his reservations on the likelihood of any of the recent contenders being able to clinch a victory over Rhodes.
The podcast had several key talking points elucidated below:
Discussing the potential challengers to Cody Rhodes, Ray shared: “Spotting somebody who could pose a real threat to Cody Rhodes, like The Rock did, like Roman Reigns did, was going to be a hard task. The current scene is reminiscent of the challengers Rocky Balboa confronted post his triumph over Apollo Creed – although these challenger were dismissed as nobodies, these contenders fighting Rhodes cannot be deemed as such.”
Questioning the credibility of AJ Styles and Logan Paul as formidable competitors, Ray opined: “We cannot toss aside AJ Styles or Logan Paul as nobodies – they are bona fide superstars after all. However, I’m unsure of AJ’s prospects in vanquishing Cody Rhodes, and I harbor similar doubts for Logan Paul. Considering them mere fodder for Rhodes, it becomes challenging for me to invest emotionally, given the background Rhodes hails from.”
As it stands, Rhodes is scheduled to compete for the title against WWE United States Champion Logan Paul, in an exciting Champion vs. Champion face-off at the upcoming King and Queen of the Ring pay-per-view event. This event is slated for Saturday, May 25, to be held grandly at the Jeddah Super Dome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
