On a recent episode of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray offered his thoughts on why John Cena might not overtake Ric Flair’s championship record in the coming year.
John Cena and Ric Flair presently hold the same record, having each secured the world title 16 times. Cena, recognized as the Cenation Leader, needs to claim one more win to establish a fresh record.
Previously, eWn reported that discussions within WWE circles have been revolving around the possibility of Cena garnering his 17th World Title. Highlights from the podcast are available for review below.
Bully Ray shared his perspective on the achievements of John Cena and Ric Flair: “For me, John Cena is a WWE Champion, no question about that. But surpassing Ric Flair’s record isn’t easy. Ric Flair has been an NWA Champion, a WCW Champion and even a WWF Champion. Moreover, Ric Flair’s titles span over different championships around the globe which, I believe, makes his record more significant than Cena’s WWE Championships alone. John Cena already stands as the most awarded World Heavyweight Champion in WWE’s history, holding the WWE’s internal record. I don’t see it as a competition, and consider Flair to be in a class of his own.”
Bully Ray also compared The New Day with The Dudley Boyz: “Some people may claim The New Day to be the most celebrated tag team in WWE history, but I wouldn’t put them in the same league as The Dudleys. The Dudleys have achieved success globally, something The New Day can’t yet claim.”
