In a recent episode of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, the wrestling icon and WWE Hall Of Fame inductee Bully Ray shared his thoughts regarding the essence of the original ECW, its leader Paul Heyman, and more.
Below are some highlights from the podcast:
Discussing the company’s ethos around the time of Barely Legal in 1997, Bully Ray stated, “[The ethos] could be encapsulated in two words. And those two words were? Sc* you. That’s exactly how it was perceived, as we firmly believed that we were the origins of a veritable revolution, and indeed, we were.”
Speaking about Paul Heyman’s leadership style, Bully Ray exclaimed, “Paul was an extraordinary leader. He got us to despise WCW and the WWE. In our eyes, they were the adversary, and if he succeeded in painting them as such, we were going to fight more vigorously. There wasn’t an evening when an ECW wrestler wasn’t geared up to wage war for the company.”
