In February of 2022, professional wrestler Buddy Matthews boarded the AEW train and has been working with the House of Black. Following his marriage to Rhea Ripley, he took a break from AEW programming.
It was disclosed on the previous Wednesday that Matthews has inked a fresh contract with AEW.
Information from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter indicates that Matthews had once shown interest in departing from AEW, but his plea was rejected.
As a result, AEW extended a lucrative contract to Matthews, who happily accepted it. This contract, which prevents his transfer back to WWE, was finalised a few months back after AEW decided to keep him.
According to the report, “As for the news circulating this week about Buddy Matthews signing a new contract, we were informed that the agreement happened months ago. He tried to resign at one point, but AEW had no intention of letting anyone transfer to WWE. Consequently, Tony Khan proposed a new, very profitable deal to Matthews and he accepted it.”
Currently, it’s not clear when Matthews will be making his return to AEW television.
