In a recent discussion with Yahoo! Sports Uncrowned, Bryan Danielson, the reigning AEW World Champion, opened up about the advancing stage of his wrestling career as well as the challenges he confronted during a recent match with Kazuchika Okada. Below are some key points Bryan shared during the chat:
Regarding the twilight of his wrestling career:
Bryan revealed that he is nearing the close of his time as a professional wrestler. “The situation is becoming unworkable. From the moment I joined AEW, I understood this was going to be the course – I’m going to pen this contract and it’s going to be the final wrestling agreement I’ll ever sign,” he shared.
Reflecting on his latest bout with Kazuchika Okada on Dynamite:
Danielson admitted to experiencing physical difficulties during the match. “About halfway through, I felt a loss of strength in my legs. Later on, I found myself unable to deliver a kick as I usually would. I couldn’t rotate my hip for the kick,” he explained. He added that he had received medical attention for about half an hour after the match, with the health professionals attributing his problems to neck-related issues. This has led to ongoing distress, including disturbed sleep due to persistent pain in his arm.
Commenting on his experience with AEW:
According to Bryan, his decision to join AEW was much more rewarding than anticipated, primarily owing to the style of wrestling he has been permitted to exhibit.
On his wrestling style compared to the WWE’s:
He expressed satisfaction wrestling with his personal methods as opposed to WWE’s. “As much as I appreciated my stint at WWE and everyone there, their playbook was very different. Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque has spoken about this. At WWE, the wrestlers were expected to adhere to their successful playbook. I’ve always preferred using my own strategies on the wrestling mat which indeed has brought me immense satisfaction.”
