Bryan Danielson, a seasoned pro-wrestler at AEW, has recently expressed his interest and aspiration to participate in the ongoing NJPW G1 Climax 34 tournament, during a conversation with Sports Illustrated. The interview covered the wrestler’s initiation into discussing his desire to compete, and also his almost participation in the current year’s event.
As Danielson inches toward the end of his tenure as a devoted active wrestler, his AEW contract is on the brink of expiry, ending on August 1, tomorrow.
Some of the notable points covered in the interview can be explored below:
Regarding Danielson’s participation in the G1, he revealed: “In the winter, I talked to Gedo, New Japan’s booker, expressing my interest in competing in this year’s G1 tournament. I had just had a thrilling match with Zack Sabre in Japan in February. The idea came to me in the spur of the moment.”
On the subject of his likelihood of participating in the competition, Danielson shared: “I hold a positive outlook and believe it might be feasible. I don’t ever put boundaries on what I can do. Still, it seems not probable. My neck condition is not in the best condition right now. That puts my health in jeopardy. Even if Tony [Khan] would grant me the entire summer to compete in the G1, the idea of being away from my family for such an extended period isn’t enjoyable for me. My wife wouldn’t approve either as it does not align with my health considerations. I have always dreamt of participating in the G1, but I am also okay if that doesn’t turn into a reality.”
Reflecting on his wrestling match at All In, Danielson confidently said: “Swerve and I are going to create something special. He’s proven himself to be a commendable champion, and I am thrilled for our face-off.”
