Bryan Danielson was sad to see William Regal part ways with AEW but he was grateful for the time he spent with his mentor.
After debuting with AEW in early 2022, Regal was gone from the promotion by the end of the year and now works behind the scenes for WWE.
Reflecting on his AEW run in an interview with Sports Nightly, Danielson mentioned Regal and the emotions he felt when the Brit left the promotion. He said,
“Some of the things that have also been really cool and really fun in this period that I’ve been in AEW are some of the surprises. Like William Regal coming to AEW, and being part of the Blackpool Combat Club. There was a time period where I didn’t know if I’d ever see him again, and then I got to see him every single week, and we got to drive together, and we’d come in and we’d show up early, and we help train people together, and that sort of thing, and so when he left, it was sad for me, personally, but I was grateful that I got to spend that time with him, right?”
Regal left AEW so he could spend more time with his son, who competes on WWE’s NXT brand as Charlie Dempsey.
A non-compete clause means that Regal cannot appear on WWE programming for the first year since leaving AEW.
