In a recent episode of his podcast “Something to Wrestle,” Bruce Prichard dished out on the failure of the WCW Invasion angle in 2001.
Prichard revealed that the storyline fell flat due to the absence of contractual agreements with WCW’s leading stars at the time.
Below are some noteworthy excerpts from the podcast:
Touching upon his desire to avoid the WCW invasion angle, Prichard said, “I wouldn’t have done [the WCW invasion]. Heavy-hitters like Kevin Nash, Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, Sting, Ric Flair, and others — were not coming. So, from our perspective, it was not about the talent. Our focus was on the Intellectual Property (IP) and securing a TV slot on TNT.”
Explaining why the storyline didn’t deliver, Prichard repeated, “I wouldn’t have done [the WCW invasion]. Big names like Kevin Nash, Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, Sting, Ric Flair, among others — they weren’t interested in coming. Therefore, our attention was not drawn towards the talent. On the contrary, we were looking into acquiring the IP and aiming for a TV slot on TNT.”
