During the most recent episode of his podcast, “Something to Wrestle”, WWE executive Bruce Prichard shed light on why Ted DiBiase Sr. never got the chance for a WWE Championship run. Also, he touched on several other wrestling figures who were on the radar for WWE title runs.
Here are some noteworthy points from the podcast:
Bruce Prichard debunked theories that Ted DiBiase was slated to be a WWE Champion: “The fact is DiBiase was never in line to be champion. Sure, Teddy had the skills to bear the title and would’ve been an excellent champion. However, that idea was never sincerely entertained. The reason being, we were in the business of creating heroes, building larger than life characters. WWE was a babyface territory that preferred a babyface champion. Teddy, with his strong heel persona, didn’t match the need of the time.”
Prichard also revealed some names that were contemplated for WWE Title runs: “We were thinking of Bam Bam Bigelow at one juncture. Bam Bam hit the ground running, but then lost momentum. The audience lost interest once they had seen him enough. Then came the talks of Ahmed Johnson. Oh, he looked every bit the champion. But sadly, he couldn’t deliver when in the ring.”
