In a recent episode of his podcast, “Something To Wrestle With”, WWE executive Bruce Prichard revealed the reasoning behind why Kane no longer competes under red lights during his wrestling matches, as he stated that the concept was ineffective.
Highlights from the podcast are as follows:
Prichard obtained clarity as to why WWE halted the practice of Kane wrestling under red lights, saying, “Because it was just awful and wouldn’t work.” He continues to explain, “Imagine this. You have a wrestler whose attire is dominantly red and black. Full body suit. Main color: Red. Are you following me so far? Now, let’s replace the white lighting that usually illuminates the fighters in a match with red light!…It made viewing anything nearly impossible. It’s an absolute disaster of a concept. I mean, we gave it a shot. Sure, there are numerous terrible ideas out there. But on the flip side, there are plenty of stellar ideas that were initially deemed terrible. All you can do is test them out, see what sticks and what doesn’t. And guess what? This one just didn’t pan out.”
When questioned if anyone championed the concept to be sustained, Pritchard replied, “Honestly, I can’t recall anyone championing it. I think the reaction post-implementation was, ‘Wow, this is really bad.’ However, once you’ve committed to it, you can’t just reverse it in a snap. You must follow through until the end. Thankfully, it was a short-lived experiment. But no, not a success, to put it mildly. Not all ideas work the first or even the third time around.”
