Reigning NXT Champion Hayes successfully retained his title against Grayson Waller on Tuesday night’s Spring Breakin’ themed episode of NXT.
Following the match, Hayes challenged Breakker to a title match at NXT Battleground.
Breakker’s music hit and the former NXT champion blindsided Hayes, taking out Trick Williams and then assaulting the reigning champ.
Breakker put Williams in the Steiner Recliner and then speared Hayes, who had rolled out of the ring, through a portion of the ringside staging. Hayes was then stretchered out of the arena.
WWE NXT Battleground takes place on May 28, 2023, at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts.
