NJPW disclosed that the debut night of the New Japan Cup, which was originally scheduled for March 7, was abruptly called off because of a damaged ring post.
In lieu of hosting actual matches, the event showcased conversation areas for the in-person audience to enjoy.
Here’s what NJPW stated: “Thank you for supporting New Japan Pro-Wrestling. The event at Korakuen Hall tonight had to be aborted due to a damaged ring post. Instead of matches, a talk segment will be held, with ticket refunds coming soon. NJPW sincerely regrets the sudden discontinuation of the event tonight and the disappointment and inconvenience it may have caused.”
Various tweets on social media confirmed the unexpected cancellation, showing images of the damaged ring post and communicating messages of apology to fans. Changes to the event’s content were quickly relayed to accommodate the unexpected situation.
Several other NJPW tweets featured updates about the current roster and urged fans to sign up and stay tuned for more updates and developments.
