Mr. Brodie Lee has been one of the more enjoyable characters on AEW Dynamite this year, but he feels like early comparisons to his former boss did more harm than good.

In a preview for this week’s new episode of the AEW Unrestricted podcast with Tony Schiavone and Aubrey Edwards, Brodie Lee talks about his AEW debut as “The Exalted One” and how early vignettes saw fans comparing him to Vince McMahon. He explained that this reaction was something he didn’t want and tried to distance himself, adding that he now gets new attire every few months.

“The Vince McMahon comparisons flew! That’s all people talked about the first 3 to 4 weeks of my AEW career, and that became I think detrimental to me, and I didn’t like it. I didn’t want it. So I tried to get away from the stuff that they were saying so as opposed to a multi-colored suit, I now went with a full tailored to me that I don’t think looks like a Vince McMahon or anybody else. This is my bi-monthly routine now, is to go get a suit made, and I love it.”

In addition, Brodie Lee also spoke about his recent dog collar match with Cody Rhodes, noting that they tried out a few chains and went with the one fans saw on TV because it looked good. While he said it was not beneficial to his neck to have a chain wrapped around it for 20 minutes, it did elicit a great reaction from Greg “The Hammer” Valentine, who is known for his legendary dog collar match with “Rowdy” Roddy Piper.

“It was unreal! Then after the match, he pulled us aside, put the match over, said how impressed, how much he loved it! It was crazy, and then they had that great shot of him at the end of him just applauding!”

The full episode of AEW Unrestricted with Brodie Lee will be released on Thursday.
