On the debut episode of AEW Rampage, Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. welcomed Red Velvet to “Brittsburgh.” “The Doctor” successfully retained the AEW Women’s World Championship against the young star on Friday night.

Red Velvet took the fight to the champion in front of Baker’s hometown crowd and somewhat capitalized on Baker’s injured wrist.

Velvet’s winning streak has been quite impressive in recent months, and she carried that momentum into this title bout. The challenger threw everything she had at the champion, and she got a near fall with a superkick and a moonsault. To add insult to injury, Velvet went for the Lockjaw, Baker’s signature submission, but the champion countered into the hold herself and made Velvet tap out.

After the bout, Baker attacked Red Velvet, and Kris Statlander made the save. But the arrival of Jamie Hayter tipped the odds back in Baker’s favor, and the duo beat Velvet and Statlander down to close the show.

Hayter competed for AEW a few times in 2019; ironically, her first match came against Baker on the October 23, 2019 episode of AEW Dynamite. Hayter also wrestled on the November 13, 2019 episode of Dynamite, but she hadn’t appeared since then due to travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Hayter is a two-time RevPro British Women’s Championship, and she has also enjoyed a lot of success in Stardom.
