In a recent conversation with US Magazine, the former AEW Women’s World Champion, Britt Baker, openly discussed her struggle with online criticism and shared how she is worn out from constantly maintaining politeness.
Here are some noteworthy parts from the interview:
Regarding her decision to stop extending courtesy, Baker stated, “I’m exhausted. No more Mr. Nice Guy from me. Let me be. Politeness is so 2024. If everyone stays real and authentic, the world will indeed be a better place.”
When asked about her life in the previous year, she said, “It has been a roller coaster, to say the least. Though a roller coaster may not be the most fitting analogy because it has a defined start and end point. I can’t decipher where this roller coaster of life began, and I have no clue where it’ll end.”
Speaking on her online critics, she voiced, “One must not take seriously everything read about oneself, whether it’s overwhelmingly good or terribly bad. Otherwise, you might wind up heavily medicated and potentially sedated. The role social media plays in our life is intimidating. Our profession practically thrives on it. However, it’s relentless toxicity cannot be denied. There’s an entire section of people on social media whose prime objective is to make you feel awful about yourself. Their daily routine revolves around trolling with their mean tweets. It’s baffling.”
In a different atmosphere on the “Insight” podcast, AEW wrestler Ricky Starks shared his experiences with his intense strap match against Bryan Danielson at AEW’s All Out 2023 event.
Some highlights from the podcast include:
Starks talked about his match with Bryan Danielson, sharing, “My seat was turned around and the first smack from the leather strap echoed through the arena. I can still remember the adrenaline rush. Later, when Bryan hit me in the face with the strap, he challenged, ‘Are you going to take it? Are you a man?’ Here’s my theory. I think Bryan underestimated me because of my appearance, the typical ‘pretty boy is going to welt’. He wanted to put me to the test, and I am glad he did. I believe I came out on top.”
In response to how Danielson reacted after the match backstage, Starks commented, “Indeed, he did. He motivated me in gorilla position in a very affirmative way, expressing, ‘You have overcome one hurdle after another and smashed every single one. Always! Every single time you’ve done what they thought you wouldn’t. If anyone doubted, you’ve proved them wrong about who you are. You proved that you are worthy of a main event.’ Those were his words to me.”
