Lex Luger is grateful for Bret Hart’s protection during their iconic 1994 Royal Rumble finish.
The spot saw Hart and Luger as the last two men in the match and go over the rope at the same time.
Speaking on his “Lex Expressed” podcast, Luger recalled rehearsing the spot with Hart before the pay-per-view. He said,
“Vince McMahon, Bret, and I all got in the ring; we talked a few things over. We worked it out — we wanted to keep it quick and simple. We didn’t want to do a long wrestle-off to get to the end of the match. We just decided to go at it. We ended with Bret cross-bodying me and they wanted me to go backwards over the top rope.
“I’m thinking, ‘How do I protect myself because I’m holding him?’ Bret, of course, took care of everything. [He’s] the master tactician and technician.”
Both Hart & Luger would be declared the winners of the Rumble match. Luger would lose to WWF Champion Yokozuna at WrestleMania 10.
Bret, who had faced Owen Hart earlier in the night, would go on to dethrone Yokozuna to win the gold.
