The infamous incident where wrestling icon Bret Hart knocked out Vince McMahon following the Montreal Screwjob at the 1997 Survivor Series has become a recurring topic of discussion. Recently, Hart graced “The Wrestling Classic” podcast and reminisced about the episode that left him feeling manipulated into the brawl.
Below are some noteworthy points from that podcast:
When asked about feeling manipulated into the fight, Hart responded, “Reflecting back, it was just one powerful shot. On one’s own shoes, the situation was difficult to fully grasp. It felt as though Vince McMahon was deliberately inciting me. My fury escalated progressively, ultimately culminating in a face-off. As McMahon approached me, we squared off as if we were in the wrestling ring. If anyone had been in the same room, they would have noticed multiple people ready to intervene, just as McMahon had intended.”
When speaking about the nature of the punch which was an uppercut, Hart stated, “Had my approach been with my right hand, they would have caught my arm, ending the episode. But with that one punch, I managed to hoist him about a foot off the ground. He hit the deck, entirely knocked out, resembling a starfish.”
The following video provides further insights into Hart’s thoughts on this incident, punching Vince, Randy Savage, Steve Austin, and others.
