Bret “Hitman” Hart isn’t a huge fan of all of the leg slaps and chops to the chest that occur in wrestling today.
Talking to HNLive for a brand-new interview, the WWE Hall of Famer opened on the elements of expert wrestling that he does not like nowadays. The WWE legend stated he was “ashamed” to see all of the leg slapping at the Clash in the Castle pay-per-view occasion.
You can take a look at some highlights from the interview listed below:
On his concerns with leg slapping: “I went to a program not too long earlier in Cardiff, a pay-per-view, it was humiliating to being in the front row and enjoy all the kids in the audience slap their leg as the wrestlers slap their leg in these kick areas where they pretend to kick each other with shin pads and slap sounds over and over. To understand that the crowd is in on it, the whole flooring is clapping and slapping their leg. I’m going, ‘we utilized to attempt and make it real, what occurred?’ Everyone is in on it. It’s a huge charade.
” I had a difficult time feeling the fan part of me come to life. When I enjoyed Dungeon Wrestling and I’m enjoying this girl [Zoe Sager] wrestling, simply seeing her take somebody over in a headlock and having a genuine headlock on was a lot more than anything I saw in Cardiff with the wrestlers there. It returns to easy art. Wrestling is an art type. ‘All art is easy.’ Wrestling is an easy art that is truly simply storytelling or bad vs. excellent, the majority of the time, anyhow, and it’s a simple story to inform. Wrestlers have actually been doing it for years and wrestlers from 2005 up do not understand anything about informing stories or what headlocks are.”
On getting sliced in the chest: “When I see wrestlers today simply slapping and the crowd going, ‘wooo’ and everybody keeps slapping, one after another and these people have welts all over their chest and blisters and their chest injured that night and they go, ‘Geez, I was a moron tonight and let someone slap me on the chest as difficult as he might 500 times and my chest is eliminating me.’ That’s what they utilized to do to the jabronies back in the old days, they would slice them, beat them, and slap them. I would never ever let a man slap me and slice me.
” Ric Flair is the only person that ever sliced me. He generally got to me in the end where I would inform Ric, ‘you can provide me one slice in the match to get it over with,’ however as far as the match goes, I’m not going to sit there and stick my chest out for some man to slap me on the chest for an hour. That’s not what wrestling is. It’s not about injuring yourself. It’s not about coming back to the dressing space and sensation … everybody understands that it’s not genuine? They all understand what’s going on. Why are you letting somebody slap you and slice you and whip you throughout the chest and harm you and you’re in discomfort all night and you wake up the next day with blisters all over your chest and then do it once again the next night. It’s simply dumb.”
