Bray Wyatt was on the brink of joining AEW prior to his WWE return last year, as recently disclosed by Dave Meltzer.

After concluding his feud with Randy Orton at WrestleMania 37, Bray Wyatt disappeared from WWE television, citing health issues related to the heart problems that ultimately led to his untimely and tragic death last week. Although it was anticipated that Wyatt would make a return to WWE, he was unexpectedly released in July 2021 amid rumors of a strained relationship with Vince McMahon.

Wyatt would later return to WWE in October 2022, but during his hiatus, he was linked to numerous major wrestling promotions worldwide, including AEW. According to Dave Meltzer’s report in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Wyatt came incredibly close to signing with AEW, to the point where TNT had been informed of a planned debut date. However, the deal ultimately fell through, reportedly due to financial reasons.

While Wyatt garnered significant interest from other promotions during his absence, he refrained from wrestling for an entire year. He briefly toyed with the idea of a return under the name “Windham6” on social media but ultimately reverted to his previous character, signaling his impending return to WWE.

In a sad turn of events, Bray Wyatt, whose real name was Windham Rotunda, tragically passed away at the age of 36 on August 24th.
