Booker T & Swerve Strickland Come Face-To-Face After Recent Controversial Comments

Following recent comments on “Vlad TV” where Swerve Strickland critiqued the treatment of Booker T during a racially sensitive incident involving Vince McMahon in 2005, Booker T, a two-time WWE Hall of Famer, has expressed his opinion.

Booker T shared that he had personally met with Strickland to discuss the matter. He stated,

“Last weekend, I was in Richmond, Virginia, for an event. Interestingly, Swerve Strickland was also part of the same gathering. He was actually the first person I talked to on the event day. Just as Swerve Strickland mentioned my reaction to Vince McMahon’s use of a racial slur, believe me, I had the same energy when I confronted him. We had an in-depth conversation, let’s talk about what was discussed.”

He elaborated, “Before this, I had declined an invitation to appear on Vlad TV. They even offered a monetary incentive, which I also turned down because I felt it was exploitative. I didn’t want to humiliate myself on a public platform or speak ill of any African American in the wrestling business, acknowledging the challenges we all face. To support any brother making a living, I always give my 100%. I expressed my disappointment to Strickland for his comments, considering the role I played in promoting him. Regardless of the prevalent belief, racism has not ceased since I joined the industry in 1990. I have been discreet in addressing racial issues and has worked tirelessly to create opportunities for wrestlers like Strickland. I feel no regrets about my contributions to the industry, having represented both in and out of the ring till now in 2025.”

Booker T added that he made it clear to Strickland that he “got tricked” by Vlad TV. He added,

“Responding to your mention of Vince McMahon’s racial slur, I guess you wanted me to be the angry man, obstructing opportunities for people like you. Swerve Strickland, I hope you never have to face the harsh realities of the entertainment world, like hearing the n-word on a movie set. More than being angry, I am disappointed in you because, as I told him, you got exploited. You allowed someone to manipulate you against me. This type of manipulation is not new on Vlad TV. I doubt your reason to appear on Vlad TV in the first place and your qualifications to do so. But regarding your comments about me, know this – I am still full of vigour and energy at six-foot-three and two hundred and thirty pounds.”

“And when it comes to the N-word issue, we can have this conversation when the use as a casual term in several circles ends. You won’t find me using that word, not in my professional or personal surroundings. For talking about the wrestling business, I always saw it as entertainment. As for dealing with racism, don’t test my mettle based on a skit. You don’t know me well enough to comment, and I want you and everyone else who thinks like you to understand this. Your issue with the company is a different matter. I am all praise for your wrestling skills, but remember, if you’re talented, it will shine through. You just need to strive like I did without whining on social media.”

Responding to Strickland’s comments about fewer black stars in WWE pay-per-view events, Booker T opined,

“I hear people like Swerve Strickland talk about there’s not a lot of black representation on the PLEs these days. Well damn it, I was all over them in my time. So, instead of blaming the color of your skin, strive to improve your skills. We don’t need any public outcry, prove your prowess. I made it in WWE, not because of my color but because of my talent. So, don’t discriminate because someone is black. It’s not fair to everyone.”

Additionally, Booker T clarified, “He never said that he didn’t get played. And that tells me a lot. It’s not what he said; it’s the implications. And I wanted to tell him my disappointment in him going down that road.”

Finally, Booker T defended his reputation in dealing with racism. He asserted,

“My reputation in handling racism in WWE is impeccable, but you won’t find me publicizing it, especially on social media. However, if I see a promising talent like Strickland struggling, I won’t hesitate to offer advice. It’s crucial to know when to pick your fights.”
