Leading into WWE Hell in a Cell, many fans have criticized Drew McIntyre’s multiple opportunities to challenge for the WWE Championship. Kofi Kingston’s temporary inclusion into the main event scene on WWE RAW added fresh life to it, but the title picture has otherwise been limited to WWE Champion Bobby Lashley and McIntyre.

In a recent interview with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Lashley explained why McIntyre has remained his top contender. In short, nobody has knocked him out of his spot in the hypothetical rankings.

“Ultimately, everyone’s talking about, okay why does Drew keep getting the opportunity?” said Lashley. “Drew keeps getting the opportunity because nobody keeps beating him. He’s number two. Unless somebody else beat number two, then number two’s the one that gets the opportunity. So I think we’re at a case right now where, who’s gonna be able to step up and beat number two? And there’s a lot of guys that are really close in their career to being able to do it, and have a little bit of momentum going. But we don’t know, I don’t know.”

The WWE RAW roster is filled with talented competitors, and any one of them could step up and challenge “The All Mighty.” Lashley described how, heading into what promises to be an eventful summer, he has to consider everyone on the red brand a potential opponent.

“I really don’t know, there’s so many guys that are at the top right now,” said Lashley. “I did an interview a little while ago, and someone said Damian Priest, and that, at the beginning, was not the first person that I thought about. But you have to take him into consideration. You have to take Randy [Orton] into consideration, you have to take Riddle into consideration, you have to take John Morrison into consideration, you have to take Elias, you have to take [Jaxson] Ryker, you have to take, The Fiend’s somewhere around there.

“There’s so many different different guys, Keith Lee, I don’t know where some of these guys are at right now. But there’s a lot of guys that are really making some big moves, and I think the next few weeks will really dictate who wants to step up.”
