At WWE Hell in a Cell, the feud between Retribution and the Hurt Business continued when Slapjack challenged Bobby Lashley for the WWE United States Championship. Both factions were barred from ringside. Lashley overpowered Slapjack, and while the challenger tried to rally, he eventually tapped to the Hurt Lock. Lashley retained the championship, but Retribution attacked him after the match. The Hurt Business ran to the ring to even the odds, and the factions stared each other down.
