Billy Gunn, WWE Hall of Famer and currently an AEW wrestler, was recently featured on the “Insight with Chris Van Vliet” podcast. During the conversation, he shared his experiences of returning to WWE in 2012 and mending fences with his fellow D-Generation X crew member, Paul “Triple H” Levesque.
Induction into the WWE Hall of Fame occurred in 2019 for Gunn, as a member of D-Generation X. This honor was also given to Triple H and Brian “Road Dogg” James.
Here are some standout moments from the podcast:
Discussing making peace with Triple H and WWE before his comeback: “I created quite a mess, if I may say so.”
On facilitating a conversation with Triple H: “During an event in Chicago, an unusual coincidence happened. WWE was in town, and I decided to give Hunter a call. I asked him, ‘Mind if I drop in?’ He graciously responded, ‘No, not at all. Feel free to come.’ After my previous layoff, I had succumbed to rage. I was on a mission to put the blame on everything and everyone, except myself.”
Triple H’s reaction to his olive branch: “Triple H’s response was unanticipated. He said, ‘To be honest, I never gave it a second thought.'”
The steps leading to his re-employment by WWE: “Soon after, I was back in the team, much to everyone’s surprise. Almost instantly, they had Brian [James] and I back touring. My responsibilities included coaching and talent scouting.”
