In a special celebration of the 25th anniversary of D-Generation X, a historic moment in WWE took place during the October 10, 2022 episode of WWE Raw. The grand event witnessed the reunion of the legends – Triple H, Sean “X-Pac” Waltman, Shawn Michaels, and Road Dogg. However, Billy Gunn was visibly absent from the line-up due to his ongoing contract with AEW.
During a recent edition of the highly acclaimed “Insight” podcast, Gunn spilled the beans about his absence, chalking it down to a simple miscommunication.
He upheld his commitment to AEW. While he expressed his desire to be a part of the celebration, he was unmistakenly clear about putting his professional obligations before anything else.
Without harboring any resentment, Gunn made it clear that if AEW had any conflicting interests, he would without hesitation place his current employer at the forefront, harboring no ill feelings. The notable wrestler expressed his disappointment at missing the incredible opportunity to reunite with his former teammates but held steadfast to his professional priorities.
He voiced his sentiments, stating: “Yeah, it was a mere miscommunication. The effort to make it there was immense, and trust me, I get it. I am engaged with an entirely different organization. If it’s possible for me to attend, great. If not, I wouldn’t bear any hard feelings. I’ve dedicated a significant portion of my life to that company and am involved in it to a large extent. They obviously wanted me to be present… But if the company I am currently associated with has certain requirements and expectations, and if things don’t pan out, then it’s something I just cannot compromise on, nor should I feel guilty about. You understand what I’m saying? Sure, I was upset, because I yearned to relish the moment with the guys but if it’s not feasible for the company that provides for me, I wouldn’t entertain that idea.”
Gunn further broached the topic of his potential retirement from AEW, expressing a possibility of yet another reunion with DX in the future.
