Big Update On CM Punk’s AEW Firing – Planned Meeting With The Elite, Brand Split Ending?
– ADVERTISMENT –

CM Punk’s AEW contract was terminated with immediate effect on Saturday, September 2, and a new report has revealed some additional details on Punk’s firing.

AEW announced on Saturday that Punk’s employee and performer contracts had been terminated following an investigation into the backstage altercation between Punk and Jack Perry at AEW All In 2023.

Fightful Select reports that several interviews took place in regard to the investigation throughout the week including those who witnessed the altercation as well as those who interacted with Punk throughout his time in AEW.

A lot of “unrelated things” were said to have been looked into.

There’s no indication that anyone beyond the disciplinary committee mentioned in the official statement had any knowledge of AEW’s decision to fire Punk.

Warner Bros. Discovery was informed that Punk’s firing was imminent and The Young Bucks were scheduled for Collision as of Thursday, while Bryan Danielson was planned to face Ricky Starks at All Out 2023 as of Wednesday.

There’s been no word of Punk talking to anyone thus far, and Ace Steel is still under contract with AEW as a remote consultant.

As we previously reported here on eWn, there was a planned meeting between Punk and The Elite before All In 2023 that was canceled at the very last minute.

The latest report suggests that the truth varies depending on who you ask, and sources close to Punk opine that the meeting was indeed set to happen, while those close to The Elite have vehemently denied of any such meeting.

However, all sides seem to agree that a meeting was at least pitched.

Punk’s side indicated that the former AEW World Champion was frustrated about The Elite’s unwillingness to speak to him.

The specifics regarding Punk and AEW President Tony Khan’s interactions have been kept quiet except for the fact that there were unpleasant interactions throughout the day.

One source stated that Warner Bros. Discovery and AEW discussed the direction of AEW Collision last week to end the soft brand split that had been in place.

Now that Punk is no longer with AEW, Danielson is expected to be an integral part of Collision going forward.
