Big E Wins Intercontinental Championship To Close Christmas SmackDown

It’s a new day, yes it is!
Big E finally got a fair rematch against Sami Zayn for the WWE Intercontinental Championship and the better man came out on top. The match had a lumberjack stipulation, so plenty of SmackDown superstars (plus Angel Garza for some reason) were there to make sure neither man could run away. Of course, this led to the usual shenanigans such a match entails, such as Corbin and his goon squad attacking Big E, and the babyfaces making sure that Zayn couldn’t retain his belt via countout.

In fact, the closing sequence saw Apollo Crews stop Zayn from fleeing and tossed him back into the ring. This allowed Big E to hit a Big Ending and close out 2020 with a huge championship win. All of the fellow babyfaces celebrated with the newly crowned champion, and we got a happy ending to an objectively awful year.
This marks Big E’s second Intercontinental Championship run. The New Day member previously defeated Curtis Axel for the belt in 2013 and held it for 167 days before losing it to Bad News Barrett.
