The AEW Continental Classic of this year will embrace a new format, in particular, it will change the way the semifinals are planned.
Usually, the top contenders from each league, Blue and Gold, are matched against a competitor in the same position but from the other league (for example, Blue #1 vs. Blue #2, Gold #1 vs. Gold #2). However, the semifinal line-up will look different this year:
Blue #1 vs. Gold #2
Gold #1 vs. Blue #2
This new arrangement allows for a potential all-Blue or all-Gold finale if both players from one league dominate their semifinals, or a Blue vs. Gold finale if one participant from each league advances.
Also, the two semifinal matches, as well as the final showdown, will unfold during the AEW Worlds End pay-per-view event, implying that the final two participants will wrestle twice in the evening.
The rest of the tournament structure stays the same with Blue and Gold leagues, each featuring six contestants, competing in a round-robin format. Triumphs gain 3 points, and a draw within the time limit awards 1 point to each competitor.
