A new Fightful Select report has provided several details regarding WWE’s current plans for alterations and changes to its championships.
As we previously reported here on eWn, RAW Women’s Champion Asuka received an updated belt this week, and the name of the title was modified to simplify the issues caused between the RAW and SmackDown Women’s Championships. Following this year’s WWE Draft, a great deal of confusion arose when the RAW Women’s Championship began appearing on SmackDown and the SmackDown Women’s Championship was featured on RAW.
According to the report, the visual changes made were intended to place the WWE Women’s Championship on a similar standing to the Undisputed WWE Universal Title held by Roman Reigns.
The name and look of Rhea Ripley’s SmackDown Women’s Championship are reportedly planned to be changed as well.
Regarding Reigns’ WWE and Universal Titles, it is being reported that the unified titles had been the subject of plans wherein the championships would have been separated before WrestleMania 39. However, those plans eventually fell through.
The plans to split the two belts were reinstated with the intent for RAW to possess its championship title (WWE World Heavyweight Championship) soon after WrestleMania 39.
Plans are also in place to combine the NXT and WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles, and several NXT talents were reportedly uncertain as to why the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships were even created in the first place. The plans to combine the titles seemingly date back as far as this past April. The unified tag team titles are intended to appear on NXT shows as and when necessary. The combination likely would have occurred sooner but plans were delayed due to roster injuries.
WWE sources have also shared internal frustrations due to the employment of the “Undisputed” label in various titles. Both Reigns and Asuka are the holders of the “Undisputed” titles, even though the opposite brand’s top singles belts are currently held by Seth Rollins and Rhea Ripley. One source was quoted as stating,
“…that’s admittedly confusing. I don’t know why there is an insistence on doing that, and a lot of people have brought that up and it’s been dismissed.”
