As a WWE Superstar, Bianca Belair takes great pride in bringing representation into the wrestling arena, reflecting on her journey both past and present within the organization.
In the history-making event of WrestleMania 37, Belair broke barriers by participating in the first ever main event which showcased entirely African American talent, as she went toe-toe to with Sasha Banks.
In this historic fixture, Belair ascended to victory and clinched the SmackDown Women’s Championship during the Night One main event, marking WWE’s first live event witnessed by fans in over a year.
Recently, in a conversation for the “Good Karma Wrestling” podcast, Belair highlighted the undeniable significance of representation. She stated,
“The essence of representation is of immense importance to me. I’m a firm believer of the idea that ‘Representation is not a plea, it’s a necessity.’ What I find remarkable about WWE is the diversity within our line-up. Every individual, irrespective of their background, can find someone relatable in WWE. Our platform unites multigenerations, diverse cultures, and individuals from all corners of the globe, underlining the importance of representation. This is, in fact, what sets WWE and the WWE Universe apart.
“Our audience wishes to tune in and see someone they connect with, something that draws their attention. That’s what drives my passion for WWE. I take great pleasure in being part of the tag team I’m presently a part of, taking pride in the fact that I’ve been integral to various historic moments, like being one of the first Black women to headline WrestleMania, and creating a legacy whilst making history.
“However, what excites me most is becoming part of these incredible moments. I am eager to contribute to more such unforgettable moments and continue enhancing representation in WWE.”
Currently in her second tenure as a Women’s Tag Team Champion, Belair and her teammate Jade Cargill are the first African American team to lay their hands on the coveted gold.
Today, the duo will be up against Meta Four, Damage CTRL, Chelsea Green, and Piper Niven as they seek to defend their titles in WWE’s Crown Jewel 2024 pay-per-view event.
