Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta are Best Friends, but the latter’s recovery from neck surgery has prevented the duo from having playtime on AEW programing.

Beretta hasn’t had a match since April, and it’s unclear how long he’ll remain on the shelf. As a group, Best Friends has adapted in his absence by leaning more on Taylor, Orange Cassidy, Kris Statlander and newcomer Wheeler Yuta. Still, this adjustment hasn’t been easy for either member of the original team.

In an interview with Joe Mason of Northeast Times, Beretta and Taylor discussed the situation; Beretta explained that it’s been “hard”, but he’s excited to return to the ring. Meanwhile, Taylor joked that Cassidy has replaced Trent as his work spouse. He also noted that he has plenty of friends in AEW, and they’ve helped him during Beretta’s time away.

“Of course it’s been hard,” said Beretta. “I think I had surgery the day of the taping of the final Dynamite before going on the road. I had surgery immediately after, it makes me so excited to be in front of fans.”

“It’s hard not having him around, but I do have Orange Cassidy, who is a good friend,” said Taylor. “Orange Cassidy is still on the road, we’re married like me and Trent used to be. We ride together, most of our things are together. He’s in Philly, too. I’ve been lucky with that. I have so many friends in AEW.”

When Beretta does return, he’ll come back to a drastically different version of AEW than the one he left. Since his last match, the company has added Malakai Black, Andrade El Idolo, Adam Cole, Bryan Danielson and CM Punk. Together, the duo is looking forward to mixing it up with all these new faces.

“It’s crazy to me, it still feels like the same promotion with all my friends doing something on the grand scale, but we added so many people,” Taylor said. “It’s growing so fast. So much buzz, You remember even back then (when the promotion started in 2019) it was hard to get on TV back then, Now there’s like 500 dudes. It’s growing so fast.”

Best Friends have been “All Elite” from the start. Though so much has changed since they last shared the ring in AEW, many fans can’t wait to see the duo get back to doing what they do best.
