As previously mentioned, The Lucha Brothers (comprising of Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix) are projected to bid AEW goodbye when their contracts are up, with rumours suggesting a move to WWE. Penta is predicted to end his AEW affiliation sooner, while Fenix’s agreement extends until September.
The AEW had shown interest in renewing contracts with both wrestling icons, but Penta and Fenix seemingly put the process on hold. Over the last few weeks, it became increasingly clear they were not keen on refreshing their AEW pledges. The apparent decision to leave was vaguely hinted at in AAA booker Konnan’s cryptic tweet “What goes around comes around 2.”
There has been talk within WWE about the potential addition of The Lucha Brothers to their roster. According to BBC sources, it seems that Fenix and Penta want to set joint terms, showing little interest in moving to NXT. An additional perspective suggested it wouldn’t be surprising to witness one, or both, of them in Orlando, FL soon to start preparations for their debut.
Of note, The Lucha Brothers have openly affirmed they’ve been in preliminary discussions with WWE, and an early stage offer is already in place. This offer is thought to be on par with what the AEW proposed for their contract renewal.
The Lucha Brothers’ collaboration with the AEW dates back to the wrestling promotion’s inception.
