Bayley versus Sasha Banks is the match fans have been asking for, but they’re going to have to wait a bit longer to see it on WWE TV.
According to a report from Louis Dangoor of WrestleTalk, WWE had originally planned for the two to meet at WWE SummerSlam this year but now want to put those plans on hold. It was noted that WWE believes there’s more interest in drawing the feud out, and the Boston location would have provided the best reaction for the Banks, the hometown star who would enter the match as a babyface.
WWE hasn’t completely written off the match from happening yet, but it was noted that alternate options are still being considered for the SmackDown Women’s Championship match for the event.
While they’ve had a few squabbles over the years and have faced each other in tournaments and multi-participant matches, Bayley and Sasha Banks haven’t had a proper feud with each other since their NXT days. Their last singles match against each other came in a Survivor Series qualifier on the November 12, 2018 episode of RAW, but fans have been clamoring for WWE to recreate the magic the two had at the inaugural NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn event on August 22, 2015.
SummerSlam was scheduled for Boston on August 23 this year, but Mayor Marty Walsh has declared no public gatherings could take place in the city before Labor Day weekend. WWE has been running events at their Performance Center in Orlando, with Backlash set to take place on June 14.
