The wrestling trio, The New Day, has made numerous appearances outside of their WWE arena, with member Xavier Woods recently reflecting on these experiences in a conversation with TV Insider. His personal highlight amongst these off-the-ring appearances was,”
“Undoubtedly Wheel of Fortune. It was an incredibly significant moment for me because it was a show my family enjoyed, my parents and even my grandmother would tune in. The anticipation and excitement they had for me being a part of it made it particularly special. That was the pinnacle for me.” When thinking about shared experiences that The New Day had outside of WWE, Woods recalled appearing on Nickelodeon’s “Double Dare” with great fondness, however, he believes their combined appearance in a movie topped it all.”
He continued, “We took part in this Netflix film titled Escape the Undertaker. It depicted the three of us attempting to pilfer his urn from his house, and his subsequent attempts to capture us. Participating in projects like these has been remarkable, especially as it’s not something you initially think about when dreaming of becoming a WWE superstar as a child. At six, only dreams of winning titles, music, pyrotechnics, and globe-trotting fill your head. However, when you’re in it, you realize the importance of camaraderie. That camaraderie truly propelled me to opportunities I never thought I’d encounter.”
Going back to 2022, Baron Corbin found an accomplice in JBL.
In his recent interview on SI’s podcast, “The Takedown”, Corbin discussed why this particular storyline did not resonate with the audience.
Here are some extracts from the podcast:
About his alliance with JBL: “A wave of change swept through the WWE, leading us to adopt the JBL storyline. But it struggled, and the exact reason eludes me. I think both John and I had bigger expectations… I wanted John to be more involved, maybe defeat a few opponents. But he ended up being more of a representative for me, an opening act, so to speak, and revved up the crowd for me. We all envisaged more, but it just didn’t land. I am willing to accept responsibility for it. JBL is hailed as one of the greatest, especially in terms of playing the heel, but sometimes things just don’t gel.”
On the moment when he believed the alliance would be successful: “There was a thrilling moment when he landed a hit on Bobby Lashley during one of our matches and you could hear the crowd’s explosive reaction. That was the spark I thought would ignite our collaboration.”
