At the AEW Dynasty 2025 event, Bandido was in a high-stakes match against Chris Jericho, where his wrestling mask was at stake, as was his shot at the ROH World Championship. This made the situation all the more crucial for the popular luchador.

As it turned out, Bandido initially suffered defeat in the match, due to Jericho employing his covertly hidden baseball bat located behind the steel steps. Bandido’s family members – his mother and sister, who were present at the ringside – managed to persuade Aubrey Edwards to intervene.

The contest was thus restarted. Despite Jericho attempting to lay hands on Bandido’s sister, resulting in return in The Nueve being slapped, Bandido managed to achieve a pinfall and secure the title for the second time. This also meant that Bandido was able to retain his mask. Subsequent celebration ensued in the ring with his family.

Another instance from the match that garnered attention was Bandido’s significant feat of holding Jericho up for a vertical suplex for an entire minute.

Bandido’s initial reign as the champion lasted for 152 days, commencing at ROH Best in the World on July 11, 2021, and ending abruptly on December 10, 2021 due to him testing positive for COVID-19. Even though Bandido was defeated by the subsequent champion, Jonathan Gresham, at Supercard of Honor XV, the official handing over of the title had already happened.

On the other hand, Jericho enjoyed an initial reign from September 21, 2022, to December 10, 2022, reclaiming the title on the October 23, 2024 edition of AEW Dynamite. His second stint with the ROH World Championship ended after a 165-day period.
