WWE has officially confirmed that the ex-AEW wrestler, Rey Fenix, will make his first in-ring appearance on the upcoming episode of SmackDown scheduled for this Friday. The identity of his opponent remains a mystery, but there are whispers of a high-profile bout.
WrestleVotes recently spilled the beans that a backstage segment involving Nick Aldis and Andrade was intended to occur on SmackDown a few weeks back, but plans changed and the segment was left on the cutting room floor. The segment was supposed to feature Aldis telling Andrade about the arrival of new talent on SmackDown and suggesting he might be the ideal initial opponent.
The report specified, “Don’t know for sure, but I can go back to the SmackDown three weeks ago, the one from Italy. Written in the show before the Liv Morgan vs. Jade Cargill match, there was to be a backstage segment with Nick Aldis telling Andrade that there are new talent coming to SmackDown, and he would want him to work with them first. That segment got cut. It was not supposed to be on last week’s show, so I don’t know where it stands. However, that would indicate to me that at least they had plans, at the minimum, for Andrade vs. Rey Fenix. We’ll see if that happens.”
This insinuates a possible Andrade vs. Rey Fenix face-off, showcasing the WWE’s initial intention for the two ex-AEW stars to square off.
