Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer is reporting this weekend on why WWE chose to go with an Ambulance Match next week when Drew McIntyre defends his WWE Championship against Randy Orton at Clash of Champions.

According to the report, the main reason that WWE chose this match type is so that Randy Orton can secure the WWE Championship without making Drew McIntyre look weak or having to take a clean pinfall loss. Drew has been heavily protected ever since winning the championship and is supposed to win the title back in the future when fans are in the stands so that he can have a ‘true crowning moment.’

Reports speculate that Ambulance Matches always have fluke finishes, so Orton will be able to win the championship and potentially carry it until his payoff match with Edge next year. With Keith Lee involved in this feud in recent weeks, there is also the potential to get him involved in the match without the match having to end due to the no DQ stipulation.
