As previously shared by eWn, WWE plans to reintroduce the iconic winged eagle title belt for a special occasion during the upcoming Saturday Night’s Main Event show.
The live event, streaming on NBC and Peacock, will feature WWE superstar Cody Rhodes defending his prestigious Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against rival Kevin Owens. Meanwhile, a special surprise, reportedly the vintage winged eagle belt, is set to make a one-night-only appearance, thanks to Triple H.
Cody Rhodes has been among the most vocal advocates for the return of the classic winged eagle belt, which first made its appearance from 1988 and stayed until 1998. According to reports from Fightful Select, Rhodes has been a leading influence in ongoing discussions about the belt’s return. Moreover, other WWE talents have expressed their support for reviving vintage title designs, which might explain why WWE’s recent Tag Team Title belts exude a classic look.
In addition to this, WWE has welcomed the concept of nostalgia marketing by assimilating vintage title designs like the winged eagle and the Big Gold Belt. They are modernizing these classic belt designs with contemporary WWE logos for commercial and advertising use.
