AEW’s upcoming weekly show Saturday Night Collision debuts on June 17 and several wrestlers who have been off television will be making their return on the new show.
This includes the like of CM Punk, as well as Andrade El Idolo, who previously confirmed his return on social media.
Fightful Select is reporting that Andrade was backstage at the May 10 Dynamite tapings and was originally supposed to make an on-screen appearance. El Idolo was set to walk into AEW President Tony Khan’s office, similar to Miro and Thunder Rosa.
However, Andrade reportedly turned down the segment due to unknown reasons. Instead, he filmed a backstage segment for social media on May 17.
During the May 10 tapings, Andrade also worked out in the ring in order to prepare for his Collision return.
Those close to Andrade opined that El Idolo himself claimed he wasn’t physically ready at the time, but the Mexican star has since been announced for an event later this month. As per the announcement, Andrade is set to make his in-ring return on June 15 in Mexico at the Olimpico Laguna Arena where he will face both Cibernetico and Psycho Clown in a triple-threat match.
El Idolo is also in talks for an event in Puerto Rico, but it’s unclear if that will include wrestling or just an appearance.
While rumors suggest that Andrade underwent surgery to prepare for the debut of Collision, neither El Idolo nor the rest of the AEW roster had any knowledge of the show at that point.
