The ROH Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view event takes place on Friday night. As you’d expect, Mark Briscoe’s injury caused some big changes to be made to the show.
Originally, Samoa Joe vs. Mark Briscoe and Claudio Castagnoli vs. Eddie Kingston were booked for the show. These would have been rematches from the ROH Supercard Of Honor pay-per-view event.
According to a report from Fightful Select, plans wound up being changed as Samoa Joe was planning to take a little time off from ROH and AEW. When the SAG-AFTRA strike came into effect, Joe became available again as his media and San Diego Comic Con appearances for Peacock’s Twisted Metal series were scrapped. For those unaware, the strike means that SAG-AFTRA members cannot promote any upcoming films they are involved in. With Joe no longer having SDCC obligations, he was booked against Dalton Castle on the show.
When Joe was pulled from the pay-per-view event and Eddie Kingston was booked for the G1 Climax tournament, Tony Khan consolidated into Mark Briscoe vs. Claudio Castagnoli for the ROH World Title. Of course, Briscoe is now dealing with a knee injury that he will need to undergo surgery for. So again, plans changed. Now, Castagnoli vs. PAC will be main eventing the show.
