Backstage News On How WWE Contract Talks Have Changed Over The Last Couple Years

Over the last few years, WWE has changed its approach to contract negotiations.

Fightful Select is reporting that WWE changed the manner in which contract talks are handled prior to Vince McMahon‘s retirement last year.

The changes in talent relations and other departments resulted in WWE changing how contract talks are dealt with.

Previously, the policy used to be to lock people down well ahead of time, but that’s not the case so much right now. A majority of the WWE roster is signed through 2024 as a result of the many contracts that were signed in 2019.

Despite the major regime change in 2022, WWE has seemingly kept an implemented negotiation method. In many cases, WWE would actually begin reaching out to talents to extend their deals around 1.5 years before the contracts expired. However, the newer approach in many cases is to wait until a period closer to the contract expiration date

It is to be noted that the change in talent relations and major internal turnover have facilitated the change, and the practice first came into effect in the summer of 2021.
