WWE’s previously reported news hasbeen confirmed – John Cena is set to face off against CM Punk for the highly anticipated WWE Undisputed Championship match at the 2025 edition of Night of Champions. The ring is set to be mounted later this month in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
On Wrestling Observer Radio’s recent episode, renowned wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer reported that WWE had been working behind the scenes to ensure Punk’s involvement in the Saudi event. There are no signs of Punk expressing any apprehension related to joining the event.
“He was going months ago,” underscored Meltzer. “I enquired about it when there were initial talks about the event. Initially, he was included in the promo package but was later excluded. So I asked if that meant he was not attending the show. The response I got was, ‘Nope, he’s going.’ So it’s clear that his name has been on the cards for quite some time now.”
Despite Punk’s past disagreement with WWE’s Saudi events, he has not voiced any uneasiness about voyaging to Saudi Arabia in the recent past. Interestingly, post his return to WWE airing on WWE Backstage, a passionate online confrontation ensued with The Miz. Following The Miz’s provocation, Punk posted a hard-hitting, now-deleted tweet stating, “Go suck a blood money covered dck in Saudi Arabia you fing dork.” Following this, the two reconciled in 2023 during a backstage meetup at WWE RAW.
The stage is set for the unforgiving showdown between CM Punk and John Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship. The battlefield is the Wrestling Night of Champions 2025, due to be held on Saturday, June 28, at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh. Fans can tune into the live streaming of the event on Peacock for the US audience, and Netflix for everyone outside the US.
