According to our prior coverage on eWn, AEW Collision will be broadcast by TNT in a new format during the NCAA Basketball season. The network has decided to air the show in two parts on consecutive nights, March 22 and March 23, deviating from the regular one-hour, late-night airing.
Set to be taped in Omaha, NE on March 18, the show will be divided into two one-hour segments, each due to air right after an NCAA Basketball game. This strategy is aimed at securing a higher rating.
The move follows TNT expressing satisfaction with the performance of AEW Grand Slam: Australia, which replaced Collision in February. In order to capitalize on the significant viewership drawn by the NCAA March Madness tournament, this experiment aims to elevate AEW’s ratings.
Dave Meltzer opined, “The idea is to give them the benefit of two–rather than do a two-hour show with the second hour being from midnight to 1:00 am, which the ratings would fall, but they’re going to give them one hour each night, coming right after the tournament game, so in theory, they should get two big ratings.”
