Backstage Details On John Cena’s Heel Turn, Plans For The Rock & Travis Scott

The Saturday night WWE Elimination Chamber: Toronto pay-per-view event saw a significant twist with John Cena shifting allegiances and teaming up with The Rock after triumphant in the 2025 men’s Elimination Chamber match.

Implying he had sold his soul to The Final Boss, Cena, joined by The Rock, ambushed Cody Rhodes who had refused to capitulate.

According to Fightful Select, the WWE made significant attempts to keep Cena’s villainous shift under wraps. This was demonstrated by internally placing the Rhodes/Rock segment as third in the event, even though putting it at the show’s conclusion had always been the plan.

The surprise heel turn left many inside WWE flabbergasted. More so, the promotional poster launched on Friday, featuring The Rock, Cena, and Travis Scott, was a well-thought-out hint of what was to come.

Plans to involve Scott in the plot were set in motion a month before Elimination Chamber: Toronto. However, it’s still uncertain if the rapper was meant to be a part of the narrative that long.

The creative minds of the segment, Ed Koskey and Brian Parise, were acknowledged internally though a producer is yet to be named.

The report also reveals that Cena and Rhodes were aware of the script’s close outcome: a face-off at WWE WrestleMania 41. Speculation is rife within WWE about The Rock’s participation at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, but no official confirmation has emerged.

We reported earlier on eWn, the WWE script team was informed to proceed under the assumption that The Rock may not take part in the WrestleMania 41.

The span of Cena’s heel development remains unclear. Most of The Rock’s storyline seems to be under strict confidentiality.

Cena won’t feature in the forthcoming two episodes of RAW and The Rock disclosed that he was en route to Africa.

Finally, contrary to various other reports, the original plan never involved Drew McIntyre winning the match as per the report.
