Pro-wrestler Austin Theory recently featured on the “Insight” podcast where he discussed various topics including his interaction with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, his unsuccessful attempt at Money In The Bank, and more.
Below are some key points from the podcast:
Discussing his segment with The Rock, Theory recalls the day before a SmackDown show when he was waiting around without a set schedule. “An hour before the show, at around the same time that we were in Colorado, I receive a phone call and wind up in Triple H’s office. The plan was for me to cut a promo, interact with Pat McAfee’s comeback, and then wait for The Rock’s arrival,” he explains, describing his surprise.
On meeting The Rock: Theory remembers being ushered outside to meet The Rock along with Triple H and Nick Khan. As The Rock emerged from a black car, Theory was awe-struck by his size and demeanor. The group then boarded Charlotte Flair’s bus for a private meeting. “The Rock told me about the magic of the performance once we got out there and his advice really boosted my confidence,” Theory recounts.
Talking about receiving a stunner from Steve Austin, Theory nostalgically looks back on WrestleMania. “After witnessing Stone Cold perform a less-than-perfect stunner match with Vince, I remember being delighted. I just tasted some beer, which was enough for the moment. Stone Cold said ‘that was a great sell’ which was a wonderful moment for me,” he says.
About his unsuccessful Money In The Bank cash-in, Theory admits he was unsure about the outcome. “Truth be told, there was hardly a plan. When you secure a match at a pay-per-view, you sort of know where it’s going. But many instances, like winning the US title or Money In The Bank, were more like rolling with the punches. With Roman Reigns being the frontrunner, despite my failed attempt, I believe it would have been cool to cash in on him rather than the US Championship,” he states.
