Austin Gunn’s AEW Dark Match Was Reportedly A Successful Tryout That Was ‘Never Intended’ To Air

As reported by Ryan Satin, the advertised match where Austin Gunn would team with Billy Gunn on this week’s edition of Dark was more of a tryout match. This is despite the fact that AEW had advertised the match, which was to be up against Proud and Powerful, on social media. Thankfully, Ryan reports that Austin’s “tryout” went well, and that he and his dad will likely team on an upcoming episode of Dark, possibly even next week.

For those wondering, sources say Billy Gunn’s match w/ son Austin Gunn taped at Dynamite last week was never intended to be on Dark & was more of a tryout.

I’m told the tryout went well & Austin will team w/ Billy again tonight for a match that will likely air on Dark next week.

Meanwhile, in completely unrelated news, WWE has posted the following Smoking Gunns match to their YouTube channel. The bout, which was against Yokozuna and Owen Hart and took place on an episode of RAW in September of 1995, seemingly dovetails into the discussion about Bily Gunn following yesterday’s AEW Dark episode. However, I’m sure WWE has another perfectly valid reason for picking this match out of the vault.
