Legal representatives for Linda McMahon, the U.S. Secretary of Education, have officially submitted a Motion to Dismiss in response to the WWE Ring Boy Lawsuit. The crux of their argument is that McMahon has absolutely no personal or legal affiliations with Maryland, where the lawsuit was initiated. This development emerged after a court directive was issued to reveal the identities of the previously unidentified victims, who now allege that a past WWE staff member, Mel Phillips, have sexually preyed on them during the 1980s.
McMahon has ardently denied in a signed declaration that she harbored any knowledge about the victims or had any role in their alleged suffering at the hands of Phillips. According to her statement, she wasn’t a supervisor to Phillips and if any act of abuse had transpired in Maryland, she was entirely unaware and uninvolved in it.
Her legal representation further underscored the following points:
- McMahon has no personal jurisdiction in Maryland.
- The allegations made in the lawsuit don't outline any plausible reasons to seek relief.
- Her connection to Maryland is simply limited to a wrestling license she had in 2004 and an apartment lease in the 1970s.
Interestingly, the lawsuit is taking advantage of Maryland’s Child Victims Act of 2023, which abolished the statute of limitations on civil lawsuits pertaining to child sexual abuse. The victims aim to hold accountable McMahon, Vince McMahon, WWE, and TKO for the alleged negligence that enabled the continuous abuse by Phillips.
Linda McMahon was appointed as the Secretary of Education in the U.S. on March 3, 2025, during the tenure of President Donald Trump.
