Athena, the reigning Women’s World Champion in Ring of Honor (ROH), has expressed her interest in going against Ronda Rousey in a one-on-one match. Prior to this, Athena and Billie Starkz have joined forces to oppose Ronda Rousey and Marina Shafir in various events for Wrestling REVOLVER and ROH.
In her latest conversation with Stephanie Chase, the topic of a potential contest with the ex-WWE and UFC champ came up. To this, Athena responded by saying, “Honestly, I would love to have a singles match with her. We’ve discussed this, even joked about it. But ultimately, she wanted to have a good time and appreciate the fun side of pro wrestling. Because let’s face it, when you’re performing live on TV, it’s work, regardless of who you’re representing. It’s a serious affair. On the indies, on the other hand, it’s a good time. She seemed to really enjoy herself when Tony presented the match and she got the experience of televised wrestling.”
On the subject of Rousey’s return to wrestling, Athena added, “I believe we’ll see her back sometime in the future, maybe a year or two from now, when she’s ready. If I were to receive a spontaneous text from her saying, ‘Hey, let’s rumble’, I’m open to whatever happens. I’ll never rule out the possibility. I know she won’t either. So, let’s just wait and see how it unfolds.”
