During the SummerSlam 2024 pay-per-view event on Saturday evening, WWE unveiled a new feature known as the “Referee Cam”. This technological innovation sees a miniaturized camera placed on the referee’s ear to give spectators a fresh, viewpoint directly from the ring’s action centre. Its première was during the showdown between Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley, where Morgan took the victory over Ripley to keep her championship, following a shocking betrayal from Dominik Mysterio to his Mami.

There is currently no official information regarding the future use of this “Referee Cam”. It’s uncertain whether it will be a regular fixture in WWE events or if its use will be limited strictly to pay-per-view spectacles.

It’s worthy to note that this wasn’t the first instance of a camera-focused innovation in the wrestling world. WCW, back in the early 90s, experimented with something similar with their “Refer-Eye cam”.
