In a recent episode of his podcast “The ARN Show,” WWE Hall of Famer Arn Anderson delivers commentary on both WWE and AEW possibly leaning towards reintroducing lengthier title reigns. This move might hint at a shift in their matchmaking strategies.

Some notable points from the podcast are itemized here:

On the topic of the tag team between Steve Austin and Brian Pillman, Anderson comments: “Austin and Pillman were naturally in sync. Their potential as a team could have skyrocketed if more emphasis was put on their paired performance and given growth opportunities. They still had another one and a half year. They could have made phenomenal strides with the team. Their mutual respect, complimentary styles, youth, fitness, and absence of injuries put them on a promising path. It was a spectacle to watch them dominate the ring.”

He also shared his thoughts on WWE and AEW trending towards extended championship regress: “If a championship is held for an extended period, it elevates its significance because it shows the audience that it holds critical value for you. I’ve had the opportunity to observe Gunther sporadically on TV and he reminds me of Manny Fernandez. He’s the kind of fighter who’ll stand toe to toe with you, chopping at you until your chest is bleeding. He’s a real tough competitor. He compels the fight to come to him and you’re faced with the need to counterstrike. Regardless of personal opinions about his politics or his perspective of our country, one cannot deny that he’s an exceptional champion. It’s evident that if anyone underestimates him, he would make them feel sorry. And he does it swiftly.”
